The museum's lobby will feature works from the artist's famous "Numbers on the Heart" series.
Mikhail Savitsky served at the front, experienced the pain of captivity, endured the horrors of Nazi concentration camps, and managed to persevere and return to life. All of this experience became the foundation of his work.
"The concentration camps taught me to be an artist. There I saw what life is like. I saw the evil that man must confront because he is human," the master said.
During the war, at least 578 places of forced detention were established in Belarus. The theme of concentration camps remains an unhealed, bleeding wound for the Belarusian people, a memory preserved by memorial complex “Khatyn”.
Every visitor to the exhibition will be able to see Mikhail Savitsky's works and realize: peace and freedom are priceless, and we must remember this!
