Leonid Levin. "Khatyn"
To mark the 90th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Belarusian architect, artist, writer, and public figure Leonid Levin, State Memorial Complex “Khatyn” is opening an exhibition, "Leonid Levin. Moments."
Leonid Levin's name is inextricably linked with preserving the historical memory of Belarus. An Honored Architect of the Republic of Belarus, a Lenin Prize laureate, and a two-time winner of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus, he is the creator of iconic memorials and architectural ensembles that have become symbols of national identity. Among his most famous works are Memorial Complex “Khatyn”, Memorial “Yama”, Memorial Complex “Children Victims of War” in Krasny Bereg, and the reconstruction projects for Trinity Suburb, the Upper Town, and the historic Nemiga, Minsk Metro Station, and many other sites.
The exhibition "Leonid Levin. Moments" offers an insight into Leonid Levin not only as an outstanding architect, but also as a subtle artist, writer, and poet.
The exhibition centers on the artist's graphic works, created during numerous trips across Belarus. Old streets, village houses, city courtyards, architectural monuments, and natural landscapes—these sketches reveal the artist's unique perspective on the world around him. They are filled with attention to detail, respect for the historical environment, and a sincere love for his native land. For Leonid Levin, drawing was a way to preserve a moment that could become history tomorrow.
That's why the exhibition was named "Moments," after the author's poetry collection of the same name. Every moment, captured in pencil, in words, or embodied in architecture, becomes part of a shared memory, connecting the past, present, and future.
Leonid Levin's books occupy a special place in the exhibition: his autobiographical story "Khatyn," his works "War and Love," "1,2,3,4...," his poetry collection "Moments," and his album "Reliving the Past." The master's literary legacy reveals the depth of his reflections on time, war, love, memory, human dignity, and responsibility to the past and future.
