It was September that saw both the beginning and the end of the most destructive war in history.
The scale of the Second World War is staggering in its brutality:
- 61 state was involved in the conflict;
- Hostilities covered the territories of 40 countries, as well as seas and oceans;
- More than 80% of the world's population was drawn into the war;
- Total casualties are estimated at between 50 and 80 million deaths, including both military personnel and civilians.
Fascist crimes have no statute of limitations. Our people paid an incredibly high price to rid the world of the "brown plague." The nightmare of the Second World War must never be repeated, and the memory of the victims of fascism must endure for ages.
