Ola – a sad page of Gomel region

On January 14, 2025, the staff of the Memorial Complex “Khatyn” held a lecture at the State Educational Institution “Special Secondary School No. 188 for Children with Visual Impairment” as part of inclusive education, which provides equal access to knowledge for all children, adolescents and schoolchildren, including those with special educational needs, various health disorders and disabilities.

A lecture “Ola – a mournful page of Gomel region” was held on the single day of remembrance of the victims of this village.

During the lesson, they talked about the plan “Ost”, which was developed by the Nazis during World War II, and that this plan provided for the mass extermination and deportation of residents of the occupied territories. Moving on to the main topic, the staff told about the tragedy that occurred on January 14, 1944, in Ola village, Svetlogorsk district, Gomel region, where 1,758 people died, including 950 children, 508 women, 100 men, 200 old people.

All those present emotionally experienced the pain and bitterness of those distant events.

At the end of the lesson, a video was shown with a detailed audio description of the tragedy, testimonies of the victims and the memorial complex that has existed on the site of this village since 2020.
