The memorial, located on the site of the concentration camp in Krasny Bereg village, is a memorable and touching place, which is sometimes called "children's Khatyn". In 1943, the Nazis created a concentration camp here for child donors aged 8 to 14. Some of them were forcibly sent to Germany, while others were distributed to hospitals as donors for wounded German soldiers and officers. In total, the Nazis took away 1,990 children for this purpose.
The author of the memorial is the honored architect of the Republic of Belarus L. Levin. As a little boy he survived the war and, having become an architect, this theme occupied a leading place in his work: "Khatyn", "The Pit", "Breakthrough", "Trostenets", "Krasny Bereg"... Each work by Leonid Levin is filled with deep meaning, symbols and allegories.
The tour of the memorial left a deep impression, which was reinforced by a visit to the new museum exhibition, which opened on December 7 this year. The museum continues the theme of stolen childhood, broadcasting children's memories of pre-war times and the beginning of the war through holograms. The theme of child partisans and underground children, who courageously and steadfastly fought for freedom in the rear, is separately revealed.
The trip provided an opportunity to exchange experiences with colleagues about working at memorials dedicated to civilian victims and to personally experience and relive the complex emotions that a visit to a memorial leaves behind.
It is impossible to hold back tears when visiting this place.
