Chinese ambassador draws parallels between Khatyn tragedy and Nanjing massacre

28.04.2025

On April 27, a delegation from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Belarus visited memorial complex “Khatyn” to pay tribute to the victims of the Great Patriotic War on the eve of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. The group of diplomats was headed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Zhan Wenchuan.

The delegation was given a tour, during which they were told about the tragic events that took place in Khatyn. The delegation laid flowers at the foot of the sculpture "Unconquered Man" and honored the memory of the innocent victims with a minute of silence at the Eternal Flame.

Zhan Wenchuan noted the importance of Belarusian-Chinese partnership in preserving historical memory:

"Khatyn tragedy is an unhealed wound in the history of World War II, evidence of Nazi atrocities. Khatyn was wiped off the face of the earth, 149 civilians, including 75 children, were burned alive and shot. Khatyn tragedy, like Nanjing Massacre, reminds us of the crimes of Nazism. We must protect and preserve peace together. This year, we celebrate the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the victory of the Chinese people over the Japanese invaders together. We will resist any attempts to deny and distort the historical truth and build a stable and prosperous world," said Zhan Wenchuan.

Thank you for your visit and respect for the memory of the victims of the Belarusian people.
