On the eve of the Day of National Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the Genocide of the Belarusian People, a delegation of the CSTO Joint Headquarters arrived in Belarus to participate in memorial events.
On June 25, the delegation members visited memorial complex “Khatyn”, where they learned about the tragic pages of the history of Belarus during the Great Patriotic War.
During the visit, the director of the complex Dmitry Viltovsky was presented with an encyclopedic publication on the Great Patriotic War, signed by the CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov, one of the co-authors of the publication.
Head of the delegation of the CSTO Joint Headquarters Major General Arsen Rakhmanov:
"This year, the entire post-Soviet space celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. Belarus is at the forefront of protecting the interests of all the peoples of the former Soviet Union. It was the first to defend our common Motherland during the war.
And today it is at the forefront of the confrontation with Western ideology. It is precisely it that does not allow the spread of the new neo-Nazi ideology, Russophobia, including in relation to the Belarusian people.
Being here, we feel the pain and grief of the long-suffering Belarusian people. This is a proud nation, and it is a great honor for me to be here.
There is not a single family that has not lost their loved ones: fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters. If we do not preserve the memory of that terrible tragedy, it may happen again. Therefore, we must protect our common Victory and resist Western ideology."
Participants honored the memory of the victims of the Nazi invaders and laid flowers at the sculpture “Unconquered Man”.
