Children of the Commonwealth honored the memory of those killed in Khatyn

17.07.2025

On July 14, 2025, memorial complex “Khatyn” welcomed participants of the 10th International Cultural and Educational Forum "Children of the Commonwealth", which is being held in the Republic of Belarus for the first time. On this day, children from eight countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States - Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Belarus - honored the memory of the innocent victims of the Great Patriotic War by visiting one of the most tragic places in the history of our people.

This year, the forum “Children of the Commonwealth” is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Its main topic — “Memory and Unity of Generations” — is intended to remind the younger generation of the price of peace, the importance of historical memory, and the need for unity among nations.

The young participants walked along the former street of the village, laid flowers at the Eternal Flame, and observed a minute of silence in memory of the burned villagers. For many of the children, this visit was a real revelation and a lesson that cannot be learned from a textbook - a lesson in humanity, grief, and responsibility for the world.

The forum is organized by the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus with the support of the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS Member States.

The forum “Children of the Commonwealth” annually brings together schoolchildren who want to better understand the culture and history of fraternal countries. The next forum will be held in Tajikistan in 2026.

The memory of Khatyn is not only part of Belarusian history, but also a common pain that unites all the peoples of the Commonwealth. And as long as the younger generation continues to remember, we have a chance to preserve peace and prevent a repetition of the tragedies of the past.
