“Khatyn” at the III Union State Forum "Russia and Belarus: Common History, Common Destiny"

14.11.2025

From November 12 to 15, 2025, the 3rd Union State Forum, "Russia and Belarus: Common History, Common Destiny," are being held in Minsk. This international event is organized by the Institute of History of the NAS of Belarus, the Center for International Cooperation of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, and the Historical Memory Foundation, with the support of the Standing Committee of the Union State.

On November 13, 2025, as part of a thematic section dedicated to the traditions and prospects of cooperation between museums of the two countries, representatives of the State Memorial Complex “Khatyn” spoke at the forum. The memorial's director, D. Viltovsky, and chief curator of the collection, Z. Rzayeva, highlighted the role of the Memorial Complex “Khatyn” in preserving historical memory.

–  Historical memory is the spiritual core of our nations. Preserving the historical memory of the events of the Great Patriotic War is our shared contribution to a peaceful future. It is for this purpose that we, representatives of fraternal peoples, unite our efforts to combat falsifications. We share the lessons of history, our memory, and our pain. The Memorial Complex “Khatyn” has become a symbol of the terrible tragedies that occurred in thousands of Soviet villages during the Great Patriotic War. For over half a century, it has taught us to value and cherish peace, to defend the sovereignty and independence of our states, and to educate our youth in the spirit of respect for history. Only together, through fruitful cooperation, can we preserve the memory of these shared pages of history and pass it on to the younger generation, noted the complex's director.

The Forum's program includes five thematic sections devoted to current issues of Russian-Belarusian cooperation in preserving historical memory and combating the falsification of history, the spiritual and moral education of the younger generation, the historical and legal assessment of the Nazi genocide during the Great Patriotic War, as well as the study, preservation, and use of archaeological heritage.

This Belarusian-Russian forum promotes the development of unified approaches to covering the events of the Great Patriotic War and preserving shared historical memory through strengthening professional ties.
