Participants in the meeting presented materials on the tragic events experienced by the population of Lida during the Great Patriotic War: the massive bombings in the first days of the war, the extermination of the Jews of Lida on May 8, 1942, the establishment of ghettos, prisons, and concentration camps within the city, and the conversion of Lida Castle into a camp for Soviet prisoners of war.
Following the roundtable discussion, participants were given a tour of the museum's exhibits and the memorial complex. They laid flowers at the "Unconquered Man" sculpture and observed a moment of silence in memory of the victims. Candles of Remembrance were lit in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary on the complex grounds, symbolizing the ongoing human duty to remember and pass on the truth about the war to future generations.
Memorial complex “Khatyn” will continue to be a place where everyone can reflect on the tragedy of burned villages, destroyed nations, and the lives of millions of people—so that such a thing never happens again!
