A delegation from Slovakia visited Khatyn

07.02.2026

On February 7, 2026, a delegation from the Slovak Republic visited memorial complex “Khatyn”.

The delegation included Branislav Rusinyak, Chairman of Spišská Nová Ves Regional Administration; Juraj Dral, Assistant to the Member of the National Assembly of the Slovak Republic; and Vladimir Olshavsky, Regional Secretary of the SMER-SD (Course: Social Democracy) political party in Spišská Nová Ves. The delegation was accompanied by Andrei Gulyakevich, Associate Professor of the Department of Public Administration at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Belarus, and PhD in Law.

Representatives from Slovakia arrived in Belarus to pay tribute to the heroes and victims of World War II. For them, this is a special mission, imbued with profound meaning and respect for their shared historical memory.

During their visit to the memorial complex, the guests viewed the museum exhibit, learned about the tragic fate of Belarusian villages destroyed during the Nazi occupation, and observed a moment of silence in memory of the victims.

"We in Slovakia remember who liberated our country during World War II. We honor the memory of both victims and liberators," Branislav Rusinyak emphasized.

The guests noted their deep respect for the Belarusian state's efforts to preserve historical truth and considered it important to contribute to the common cause of remembrance.

As a reminder, in March 2025, representatives of Slovakia donated a capsule containing soil from a Slovak village destroyed by the Nazis in 1945 to Memorial Complex “Khatyn” Museum. This symbolic gesture became a sign of solidarity and shared grief among the peoples affected by the tragedy of war.

Vladimir Olshavsky emphasized: "Slovaks and Belarusians are fraternal Slavic peoples. We wish for Slovaks and Belarusians to live in peace. We advocate friendship between peoples."

The Slovak delegation's visit to memorial complex “Khatyn” was further evidence that the memory of the tragedies of World War II unites peoples and serves as an important foundation for mutual understanding, peace, and cooperation!
