The collection "Names of Heroes on the Map of Russia" was prepared by the Federal Service for State Registration, Cadastre, and Cartography jointly with PLC “Roskadastr” of the Russian Federation. The publication includes information on more than 30 geographic features in the Russian Federation named in honor of heroes of the Great Patriotic War and Heroes of Russia.
The book contains biographies of World War II veterans and modern-day residents whose names are given to mountains, bays, streets, and other geographic features. The publication's particular value is enhanced by cartographic materials, historical references, and official naming documents.
One of the collection's heroes is Iosif Gusakovsky, a native of Belarus—a Soviet military leader, army general, and two-time Hero of the Soviet Union. An underwater geographic feature within the Russian Federation's exclusive economic zone in the Barents Sea is named after him.
Such initiatives are of great importance for preserving the historical memory of outstanding defenders of the Fatherland and contribute to the patriotic education of the younger generation and the preservation of the memory of the tragic pages of wartime history.
