The commemorative meeting was attended by Natalya Yakubitskaya, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Commission of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on Regional Policy and Local Self-Government, and Andrei Shevchenko, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Federal Structure, Regional Policy, Local Self-Government and Northern Affairs.
The ceremony began with the performance of the national anthems of Belarus and Russia—a symbol of our shared history and strong union.
As a sign of deep respect for the heroism of the defenders of the Fatherland, the guests honored the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War with a minute of silence.
Among the honored guests at the event was the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of Nizhny Novgorod Region, Evgeny Lyulin.
"On the eve of such a significant event for our countries as the Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia, we first and foremost recall our shared history and the great feat of our peoples. We bow to the generation of victors who defended peace on our land. By laying flowers at the Mound of Glory memorial, we pay tribute to all who fought for freedom and independence. Our sacred duty is to preserve this memory and pass it on to the youth. It is on such spiritual staples that our unity is built, which is more important today than ever for strengthening the Union State," noted Yevgeny Lyulin.
This day once again reminded us that the unity of our countries is inextricably linked to our shared history and the memory of those who gave us peaceful skies. We have no right to forget the past, for it is it that determines our shared future.
