A tour of the memorial complex grounds was organized for the delegation members, during which the guests explored the open-air exhibition and learned about the history of the memorial complex.
Information: The first handful of earth was laid at the base of the future Mound of Glory on September 30, 1966. Soil was brought here from sites steeped in military glory – the Hero Fortress of Brest; the Hero Cities of Moscow, Volgograd, Sevastopol and Odesa; as well as Leningrad.
Following the tour, members of the delegation paid tribute to those who perished in the Great Patriotic War and laid flowers at the bottom of the memorial.
"It is important to me that, together, we pay tribute to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War here on Belarusian land. We share a common history and a common memory," noted Alexander Drozdenko, Governor of Leningrad Region.
The delegation’s visit underlined the unbreakable ties between the peoples and the importance of preserving historical truth for future generations.
